Buckingham YFC Crowned 2011 Champions!

Buckingham Young Farmers' Club are celebrating after being crowned 2011 champions at the Buckingham Country Show last weekend. The Show was also the annual rally/competitions day for Buckinghamshire Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs (Bucks YFC), with members of every club in the county competing in a huge number of competitions both before and on the day. These ranged from bale stacking, bath racing and tug of war, to livestock handling, auctioneering and countless homecraft classes and were designed to give members the chance to show off their skills and even try something new.
Buckingham YFC emerged victorious when the points were announced in the evening, with the winning margin to second placed Princes Risborough YFC standing at a very impressive 135 points, whilst Winslow Countrysiders came top out of the Junior clubs.
It's the first time in many years that Buckingham YFC has achieved the feat, with Club Chairman Ed Lovelock commenting "Winning the rally is an incredible achievement and everybody connected with the club is thrilled. It's been an extremely busy year, with the club also involved in organising the Show, but all of our members should be very very proud of their success and I want to say a massive 'well done' to all who took part – it's very well deserved.
"Thanks must also go to everyone who worked tirelessly to put on the Show and to the Richardson Family for allowing us to host it on their land, as well as their time, effort and dedication to putting on such a fantastic event."
Enjoying the glorious sunshine, crowds packed around the main ring were kept entertained from start to finish. The inter-hunt relay set the tempo, with their closely fought contests setting the adrenaline racing. Amongst the other attractions across the showground, a number of rural skills were demonstrated, including sheep shearing, thatching and "From Field to Plate" showing where various cuts of meat come from. In addition, the dog agility, classic car show and agricultural machinery displays proved real hits with visitors – many of whom travelled long distances to come along.
